End of the first week of camp!

It's Friday! What a beautiful day here at Higashi where the students got to be outside enjoying the different activities offered at camp! Today the elementary division had the chance to run around in the field testing out the kites that they designed themselves. In the art lessons this week, students were able to work together in creating high flying kites.

The middle school division had their chance to meet the horses today! They had a blast riding around the field on the horses.

The emergence program students got to hang out on the slack lines in the shade for leisure time. They listened to music while practicing their skills balancing on the ropes between trees.

Stars and Stripes Camp

Today at the Stars and Stripes camp the Higashi students got a special visit! Students had the chance to meet and ride two horses around the sports field. Some students showed that they are naturally gifted horseback riders while others showed that they could overcome their fears! Our great Higashi students were able to encourage each other to get up and ride those horses! We even had a little surprise visit from a therapeutic bunny that just loved meeting our students.

Taking Science Into The Community

This past week the EP division went on a division field trip to the Museum of Science in conjunction with their academic unit based on science. They highly enjoyed themselves visiting the planetarium and traveling around the solar system (and sitting through a 40 minute show)! They visited many different exhibits including planets, electricity, birds, dinosaurs and of course space! The students all did a tremendous job behaviorally and learned a great deal.

New products coming soon at the Higashi Store!!

Residential students are working very hard to create new products for our Higashi Store. One of the products will be on display soon is a colorful mailbox decorated by our students during their vocational class. These creative youngsters are also making some pretty beautiful greeting cards. They are using the same skill they recently used to decorate mason jars for the flower arrangements they did for the Mother’s Day.
Good news …….. these new products will be ready during the Annual Celebration day on June 24th, 2018 at King Phillip High School.

Beautiful ceramic leaves are also coming soon! Stay tuned.
